Gregory Porter - Take Me To The Alley - Album Review | Amazing!
Review: Gregory Porter is, so to speak, a complete artist, combining an exceptional vocal ability, a deep command of harmony, and a wonderfully smooth and soulful voice. His status as a top-tier musician has also been cemented by his Grammy Awards.
He effortlessly brings both classic standards into a modern jazz setting and performs more contemporary soul compositions with equal success. Among the artists who can be mentioned alongside his style are Barbara Lea, Jimmy Scott, Emma Smith, and many others. Although his music is generally classified as “modern jazz,” his work carries a distinctive retro-soul atmosphere reminiscent of a bygone era, along with the rich, grand orchestral textures of the 1970s.
His sixth studio album, *Take Me to the Alley*, produced by Troy Miller, stands out as a particularly personal record, featuring songs written and composed by Porter himself. The album received a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album and includes a mixture of classic standards and original compositions, as well as collaborations with artists such as Renée Fleming, Dianne Reeves, Laura Mvula, and others. The album is also available on YouTube.
Porter has not released a new album since 2023, but he continues to perform concerts around the world.
